According to the announcement of the JPKF Deputy Commander Captain Vladimir Ivanov, on 3rd September 2006 at 15:37 the air space of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone was violated by Georgian military helicopter Mi-8 that was proceeding from south-east to north-west above villages Abano-Balta-Vakhtana and went deeper over a distance of 7 kilometers. Near village Vakhtana, Znauri region, the aircraft was fired at by unknown people. Further the helicopter passed by the North Ossetian peacekeepers’ observation post “Tsnelis” at 150 meter height. After that the aircraft dissented in village Tsavgli. It is currently known that the helicopter landed on a territory controlled by the Georgian side.
Flights of military aviation in this region recently obtained systematic and an openly provocative character, in this regard we would like to remind again that the alike activities are violating the terms of the JCC decision from 30 July 2002 (protocol #24) “On unsanctioned flights of aircrafts above the responsibility zone of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone”.
