Dear ladies and gentlemen!
Already, for more than 10 days the inhabitants of South Ossetia have endured the conditions of a humanitarian disaster. There is no water in the villages. Kindergartens, schools and hospitals are in critical condition. The population can hardly stand such living conditions in 30 decrees heat. The first cases recorded of gastrointestinal infections have been noted, most of them preschool age children. The blame for the events that are unfolding is fully on the Georgian side, which deliberately closed the water supply to Great Liakhvi Gorge.
We appeal to you, with a request, to facilitate with the settlement of this problem as political ambitions are guiding those who have closed the water supply to the population of South Ossetia and do not allow working groups to where the water pipe is damaged and this neither promotes peaceful resolution of the conflict nor promotes the establishment of good neighborly relations. Moreover, these actions exacerbate the negotiation process that is already at a standstill. Public discontent is growing not only because of the actions of the Georgian government but also due to the indifference of international agencies.
Unfortunately, the problem cannot be solved solely through efforts of the OSCE Mission. Peace can not be built on aggression and discontent. We are tired of the flow of the disinformation channeled towards the international community via the Georgian mass media.
We ask you to take the most active role in the settlement of the problem as all the ongoing events can lead to irreversible consequences, which would be harder to solve.
