The United Kingdom Ambassador to Georgia Mr. Denis Kif with his wife visited the Republic of South Ossetia. The Ambassador paid a call to boarding school, where rehabilitation works of the building are underway in the framework of the Donor Program of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone rehabilitation.
Then Denis Kif was welcomed by Boris Chochiev the Deputy of the Chairman of the Government, Minister on Special Affairs of RSO, Co-chairman of JCC from South Ossetian side and Murat Djioev Minister of Foreign Affairs of RSO. The Secretary of JCC from South Ossetian side Leonid Tibilov also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting Boris Chochiev noted the essential role of The United Kingdom in organization and implementation of measures in the framework of the Donor Program of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone rehabilitation. “Existing results pertaining to realization of projects on Donor Program will give an impetus to the other states to partake in this Program realization”- Boris Chochiev said. Regarding the Georgian-Ossetian negotiation process Boris Chochiev noted “the South Ossetian side is not the author of the deadlock in the negotiation process. In the past when JCC did not function, we maintained contacts and this could not be said today. I personally have not had even telephone conservation with Georgian JCC co-chairman for five months.”
In his turn Denis Kif mentioned that the purpose of his visit is to get acquainted with the present political situation on the spot. He also stressed that The United Kingdom attached significance to the economic rehabilitation of the conflict zone, as “prosperity and better life is one of the conditions of mutual understanding”. “I’d like to discuss the idea of resumption of negotiation process as the peaceful settlement of the conflict– is the only way out”- the Ambassador underlined.
