The fifth round of Geneva talks on security in the Caucasus will take place on 18-19 May in Geneva, reported the Special Representative for Post-Conflict Settlement Boris Chochiev. He underlined that “these are discussions, not negotiations on the situation related to Georgia’s aggression against South Ossetia”.
“At the last meeting in Geneva, we raised issue, which is most important for South Ossetia, and it is security. We should receive guarantees that Georgia would not perfidiously attack our country again. During the last round of Geneva discussions the South Ossetian side found understanding of the point that before one starts talking about humanitarian issue and refugees, we should obtain security guarantees. I would like to remind that a memorandum on non-use of force had not been signed yet”, he stressed.
In May, the fifth round of discussions will solely focus on security issues. We are taking with us a draft of memorandum on non-use of force and we hope that we will be able to discuss it in Geneva. We expect that the EU and other international organizations will engage in the discussion of this issue”, sadi Chochiev.
He informed that issues related to South Ossetian citizens abducted and illegally kept by Georgian authorities will be also discussed in Geneva.
