A session of the Government Commission on Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border with Georgia was held in Tskhinval. The session was presided by the Commission Chairman Boris Chochiev. “We have addressed a note to the RF Foreign Ministry requesting facilitation in preparation on relevant maps. The work is being carried out in the RF agencies and structures with an active inter-agency coordination. They will soon establish a Delegation for delimitation and demarcation of the border with South Ossetia and then we will start our joint activities based on a bilateral agreement. At this stage, we have to identify our borders, both on maps and on the ground”, said Boris Chochiev in his introductory speech.
According to Sergey Kolbin, the Deputy Commission Chairman, all issues should be settled bilaterally and it might happen that the territory is much bigger. “If based on the 1921 Decree which identified the borders of South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast within the Georgian Soviet Republic, its interpretation today is not precise since the border had been changed several times. This line has quite a complicated shape and it crosses several villages, and while working on it, we will be facing many serious problems in a number of places. Today our task is to identify for ourselves the location of the border on the ground to further continue defining it. We have to carry out an extremely difficult and serious work. We cannot allow any single square meter of our land to be lft out for Georgia” underlined Merab Chigoev, the Commission Secretary.
The Commission members exchanged their viewpoints on the main tasks of their activities, agreed on the immediate steps.
The Commission for Delimitation and Demarcation of the RSO State Border with Georgia was established on 8 April 2009. The Commission includes the government members, heads of district and village administrations.
