One should not forget those horrible days

In the nineties of the last century as a result of so-called perestroika the scale process of the USSR collapse has begun. The Georgian Republic one of the first has withdrawn from the USSR and has declared itself the independent Republic. After that the former regions have separated from Georgia. Abkhazia has also declared itself the independent Republic. Adzharia nominally was a part of Georgia, but it actually began an independent course of internal and foreign policy. South Ossetia has also withdrawn from the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic and proclaimed itself the independent Republic.

The new leadership of Georgia led by the spiritual heir of Hitler Zviad Gamsakhurdia could not reconcile with these changes, losses of the former autonomies and launched bloody campaign against Abkhazia and South Ossetia, considering them their integral parts. Per 1989-1992 bloody pogroms of Gamsakhurdia have reduced a small South Ossetia to ruins, hundreds villages have been set fire and hundreds trees have been reduced to ashes. One thousand women, children, old men left their houses, running to North Ossetia. Hundreds people have been brutally shot, tortured to death, have been buried alive. The capital of the region Tskhinval was also burning, there were fires, ashes and ruins everywhere. One of the evidence of the bloody tracks of Gamsakhurdia is the cemetery, near the school № 5 where the victims who have been hung up, the burnt alive defenders of the Fatherland are lying. The so-called «Zarskaya tragedy» will remain in memory of history. Here, near the village Zar, in several kilometers from Tskhinval, have ruthlessly been shot women and children, old men leaving to North Ossetia escaping from horrors of fire. They could not manage to leave Tskhinval. Gamsakhurdia has left a trail of blood all over the region just as his predecessors in 1920. The bloody wounds of genocide in 80-90-годов have not skinned over yet as in 2004-2008 the new escalation of violence has started. Every day the Georgian mass media had been declaring that the Ossetians are the "visitors", «strangers» etc. The new power of Georgia led by the "worthy" successor Zviad Gamsakhurdia has decided to wipe this rebellious region off the face of earth. The Georgian Hitler has developed the plan of lightning war - "Blitzkrieg" – he wanted to wipe all South Ossetia off the face of earth within few minutes. This operation was called "open field", and for a seizing of the capital of South Ossetia he had prepared the Hitler operation "Typhoon", which had provided that no one inhabitant would have survived (as it was in 1941 near Moscow). On August, 7 on the eve of sudden bombardment of the town Michail Saakashvili on television hypocritically addressed to citizens of South Ossetia and assured them faithfully in his respect of the Ossetian people and in hope that all conflicts would be settled by peaceful means. And the next day, on August, 8, 2008 suddenly hundreds tons of deadly metal fell upon a sleeping city. Storm fire, volley fire "Hail", bombardment swept away all on their way, pulled out trees with roots. The War was also being conducted with the dead, too-the Georgian planes were bombing cemeteries where the victims of the previous genocide were lain. The crime of this genocide is that intrusion into sleeping Tskhinval was really sudden and lightning and nobody knew even did not suspect about it. People ran out of the burning houses half-dressed, in dressing gowns, slippers, barefooted, half-dressed. That night, sudden storm bombardment, roar, all-round shooting have awaken me. I had no even time to look out of the window as the fiery tornado has lighted up all around. I have jumped out of the bed dozing, I have fallen, then risen, I have struck my face against the door, after that I took along some of my clothes, half-dressed, barefooted and run away into the cellar. All my neighbours were also running downstairs. There, in the cellar all of us hastily put on clothes, shoes. I have not felt at once the pain in a cheek and a tumor. Later I had a bruise for a long time. I have not realized hitherto, what miracle saved me then, after all the walls and the room ceiling have been deeply dug by fire of the Georgian tanks which have rushed into the town, and hundreds debris are visible on the doors and walls hitherto. Bombardment and the Georgian air raids went on almost uninterruptedly. At first I thought that bombardment was conducted only from the South, from the Georgian village Nikozi, but the fiery tornado has embraced the whole South Ossetia. We stood heaps in the cellar, while men were searching for boards to adapt them to sitting by turn. In short intervals between the bombardments, having bent down, the people ran out of the cellar through hastily constructed barriers to take some food, and also to do their business. But it was terrible, because bullets could hit on ladders and on platforms, at the doors of the apartments. We sheltered our neighbours who had no cellars and had run to us in intervals of the bombardments. Here in the underground we were all together: Russians, Ossetians, Georgians, we shared the last crust of bread. We were sleeping on the boards by turn when kerosene was over we used the candles thrust in the earth. It was dark and damp in the underground; we were wrapped up in what we had got. Under the bombing attacks the earth was shivering underfoot. Though I was not the participant of the Great Patriotic War, but at that time I was recollecting the fascist intrusion and their plan "Barbarossa". Tskhinval was being fired by all types of weapon. We were frightened because as a result of bombardment all of us could be buried under the ruins of the destroyed house. Meantime there was an unequal bloody war in Tskhinval and in its suburbs, in the villages. Leonid Kornilov in his books «Five days to rescue», «The Soviet Russia», «About the Caucasian war» (М, 2009) in a poem «From Reichstag they did not see ruins of Tskhinval», «Egorov and Kantaria» has written: Through time deafened by war, children and women are thrown out of the windows of Tskhinval by the deadly blast wave… Egorov is looking over the winds at the rocks hiding the Russian peacemakers from the bullets of the Georgian snipers. But we were waiting and trusting. We knew that neither "Bush"-one of the organizers of the Ossetian genocide, - not Europe would help us. Only Russia was with us. We believed that the Russian tanks would just enter in Tskhinval. Our president, Eduard Kokoity and the Republican leadership have addressed to Russia with the request of rendering the emergency aid to the people who found themselves on the verge of destruction. And those terrible days the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Anatolievich Medvedev has not left the Ossetians in trouble. Russia hastened to rescue us. At last we have heard a roar of the Russian tanks. «Russian tanks, Russian tanks! », - we were shouting loudly. The legendary 58th army has entered in Tskhinval. We left the cellar, our joy was boundless. With tears we welcomed the Russian tank columns passing along the Lenin Street. They were also we greeting us at a distance. Those were unforgettable days! One cannot forget that fiery arch which has seized all South Ossetia. I can`t forget those fatal days and those who were escaping in woods and were hit by the Georgian bullets; both the dead and alive cannot forget it. Yes, the Georgian Hitler's "Blitzkrieg" has been realized not for the Ossetians, but for the American-Georgian army. The leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro has fairly underlined that «the Government of Georgia would have never attacked the capital of the autonomous Republic of South Ossetia … without the preliminary coordination with Bush … («Five days to rescue see "), "Soviet Russia», фbout the Caucasian war. М, 2009, p. 16). The Five days war has come to the end. Small South Ossetia was bleeding. Only Russia has come to rescue us. Only Russia and fraternal people of the Caucasus hastened to support the Ossetians. Meantime the houses around were still burning down, the fire of the destroyed and burnt houses, state institutions and the cultural centres have not gone out yet: there were heaps of ruins, ashes, broken glasses underfoot, the aerial bombs debris all around. So we were walking around the town at the beginning of August to look at the XXI- century trails of blood. It hurt me when the peacemakers had been shot, when the Russian soldiers had perished! Maybe, it’s a sin to say so, but it hurt me more, as the young guys from the different Russia cities, arrived to protect the Ossetians these tragic days, had perished. The people and the world community should know these unforgettable monstrous crimes against the small nation of South Ossetia. I support and I express deep gratitude to the writer and all authors of the articles of the book which consists of the whole volumes - («South Ossetia - forever with Russia», the historical-legal explanation of joining the Republic of South Ossetia into Russia (Collection of documents and materials, 2004). It is also impossible to read without a pain a small book, a special issue of the "Soviet Russia» - «Five days to rescue» (Moscow, 2009). The Ossetians are grateful to all those who have suffered our pain and tragedy, who have compassionated and have no left us at that terrible time. The War has come to an end, the peace life has set in and again Russia has begun hastened to render the humanitarian aid. Huge columns, no tanks, but trucks full of foodstuff, clothes, footwear, building materials and many other things are arriving and arriving from Russia hitherto. Grateful memory of the Ossetian people should know and remember all events of those fatal days, remember forever, remember that today South Ossetia is building the Republic on this earth. But for Russia, there would be the "open field" here. People, remember, and be vigilant!
