Presidential elections in South Ossetia have been scheduled for November, 13

Today the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia has scheduled the presidential election of the RSO for November, 13, 2011. According to the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic Stanislav Kochiev, the presidential elections will pass on the second Sunday of November, on the expiry of the term of powers of the President in accordance with the Constitution of South Ossetia. Deputies of the Parliament have unanimously supported this question.

The question on formation and appointment of the members of new Central Election Committee of the Republic has been submitted to the Parliament session, as the term of office of the current Central Election Committee expires on August, 31. Deputies of the Parliament have voted for a parliamentary quota, including seven persons - three from the party «Unity« and two from the "National" and the "Communist" parties. The quota is established by the President, according to the law; he will also submit a nominee of the Chairman of the Central Election Committee to the Parliament. The same day, on November, 13, the referendum on the issue- «Do you agree with the decision that the official languages of the Republic of South Ossetia would be the Ossetian and the Russian? »- will pass in South Ossetia. Earlier the President of South Ossetia has signed the decree about conducting the referendum - «Do you agree with the decision that the official languages of the Republic of South Ossetia would be the Ossetian and the Russian? », - all over the territory of the country on September, 11, 2011. Later the Parliament of the RSO has made a decision on moving amendments to the article 10 of the Constitutional Law «About the referendum in the Republic of South Ossetia», which allows the President to hold the referendum along with the presidential elections. The decree of putting off the date of the referendum in the Republic of South Ossetia from September, 11, 2011 to November, 13, 2011 was signed by the President of the RSO Eduard Kokoity on August, 1. According to the current Constitution of South Ossetia, the Ossetian is the official language and the Russian is the legalese one. It should be noticed that the power of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia is registered in the articles 47-55, chapter III of the Constitution. According to the article 48, the President of the RSO may become a citizen of the Republic no younger than 35 years old, knowing the official language (the Ossetian) and who has been constantly living the last 10 years in the territory of the RSO. The President is elected for five years. The same person cannot hold a post of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia more than two terms successively. For the period of holding the post the President of the Republic of South Ossetia suspends his membership in any political parties and public associations. Earlier the President of the RSO Eduard Kokoity has declared that he is not going to change the Constitution of the Republic and run for the third term.
