The first post office has been opened in South Ossetia

Today inauguration of the first international post office "Mail of South Ossetia" has been held in Tskhinval. The event was attended by representatives of the Government of South Ossetia and the Russian presidential administration, the leadership of the Office of the Federal Postal Service in North Ossetia, management and employees of the Republican SUE "Postal and Telegraph Services of South Ossetia" and administration of the Federal SUE "Mail of Russia".

Addressing the people, head of the government of South Ossetia Eleonora Bedoeva has underlined the importance of starting a full-fledged mail connection of South Ossetia with the foreign countries.
"20 years South Ossetia has been deprived of qualified postal services. Today the situation has changed. Russia has kept its word and is strongly contributing to the economic development of our Republic. Today's event – is one more proof that everything will be fine, "- said Bedoeva.
Ambassador of Russia in South Ossetia Elbrus Kargiev has also congratulated the participants of the ceremony. He stressed that at all times post office had been promoting closer relations between the cities, countries and peoples. "Deep human and humanitarian ties have been established between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia since long ago. In addition, modern communications are functioning in South Ossetia – we are connected by Transcaucasian motor highway, pipeline, strong power line, telephone, e-mail. And today the modern postal service has been made accessible. I congratulate you on this event and wish Tskhinval would receive and send only good news", - said the Ambassador. At the ceremony the representative of the Russian presidential administration Sergey Chebotarev has also pointed out the significance of this event.
"If you look back at seven or eight years ago, it was impossible to imagine the today's event, because at that time people of South Ossetia were living in harsh conditions. But Russia has lent the people of South Ossetia a helping hand. It became possible to obtain the Russian citizenship that allowed the population of the Republic to receive the Russian pension and other payments. Our cooperation has risen to a new level after the August 26, 2008, when Russia formally recognized the independence of South Ossetia", - Chebotarev has reminded. He has said that South Ossetia and Russia are related by numerous ties, one of which is mail.
He thanked all the state structures of South Ossetia and Russia, participated in the establishment of the postal services between the two countries At the end of the ceremony the participants released pigeons and hundreds of balloons into the sky over Tskhinval.
