Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia due to the Georgian Foreign Ministry statement

A statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, issued July 16, 2012, expressed concern about the visit of Commander-in- Chief of the RF Land Forces, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin, to South Ossetia, who allegedly "in violation of the state border of Georgia arrived in the regions of Georgia, occupied by Russia, -Abkhazia and the Tskhinval region".

Ignoring common sense has always been an attribute of the position of the official Tbilisi and the Georgian statements of such nature are nothing more than traditional attacks of Georgia on South Ossetia and Russia. Georgia keeps ignoring the current realities and tries to level the existence of the independent state of South Ossetia.
Indeed, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin paid a working visit to the Republic of South Ossetia, since the development of bilateral relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia involves close interaction, including reciprocal official and working visits, and there is nothing surprising in this. Land Forces Commander-in-Chief, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin did not violate not only the state border of Georgia, but he did not approach it. Attaching great importance to the development of foreign policy, South Ossetia is building its own relationship and considers the interference in its internal affairs as violation of the international principles.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia has repeatedly stated that South Ossetia has no relation to the territorial integrity of Georgia. With regard to the presence of the Russian troops in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, it is due to bilateral Russian-Ossetian agreements, and people of South Ossetia do not have alternative to the Russian military presence in the region, taking into consideration the aggressive policy of Georgia against South Ossetia.
The findings of the European Union independent commission`s report headed by Ms. Heidi Taljavini, clearly showed the world that Georgia had been the initiator of the war in August 2008. And the subsequent constant war preparations and threats of Georgia to "restore the territorial integrity", unfortunately, has remained without the adequate attention of the international community. So they do pose a serious danger and are the evidence of the revanchist moods of the Georgian leadership.
Georgia will only be able to influence positively on the situation in the region, if itaccepts the political reality, and establishes good relations with the Republic of South Ossetia.
