Republic of South Ossetia is recognized by the Russian Federation; thetwo countries have established equal contractual relationship in accordance with the international standards.
This has been said IA "Res" by the RSO Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, commenting on a statement of the Georgian Minister for Reintegration Paata Zakareishvili, that "Georgia does not recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia and wants to protect these countries from the Russian expansion."

"The statement of the Georgian minister – is nothing more than a relic of the former authorities’ rhetoric. As for the recognition of South Ossetia by Georgia, it would be an acknowledgment of the actual reality, and I'm sure, it's in the interest of the people of both countries, "- said Dzhioev.
He has expressed the view that, despite the fact that "new people came to power in Georgia, the ideas have remained the old ones."
"This suggests that the ''position'' and the ''opposition'' in Georgia think alike towards South Ossetia'' , though the opposition for the sake of its political aspirations and image, sometimes, ostensibly aimed at normalizing relations with neighboring South Ossetia, announce theses, which it rejects easily when coming to power. One can easily observe such ''evolution'' of views after the example of Mr. Zakareishvili"- said Dzhioev.
He has added, that at the Geneva talks attended by the EU experts, was discussed in detail the acceptability of the terms "occupation" and "occupied territories" in relation to South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
"I have not found any argument that would have made it possible to regard the Russian presence in South Ossetia and Abkhazia as the ''occupation'' and consider our country the ''occupied territory''. And yet, both the former and the current government of Georgia have been pushing these terms into use, "- said Dzhioev.
Finally the envoy has stressed, that although "new people" came to power in Georgia, the rhetoric and their attitude towards South Ossetia have remained the same.
