A regular meeting of the Public Chamber of the Republic was held in the capital of South Ossetia, during which were discussed the issues of development of agriculture. Participants of the meeting also touched upon the problems of small and medium-sized enterprise. The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture Mairbeg Guchmazov, Deputy Prime Minister Guram Melkoev, representatives of the districts administrations.

Chairman of the Public Chamber Merab Zasseev has noted that the territorial and climatic conditions of South Ossetia make it possible to become a prosperous agrarian republic.
"Before the collapse of the Soviet Union we had the collective farms and farms that were functioning successfully and produced not only ecologically clean products, but were also bringing a good income, - said Zasseev. - For two decades, agriculture has fallen into decay, which negatively affects the life the Republic as a whole. "
Agriculture Minister Mairbeg Guchmazov spoke about the problems facing his agency.
"The main problem is the lack of agricultural products processing, as well as the lack of highly qualified personnel, - said Guchmazov. - We have developed the project of revival of the rural economy to 2030, having included into the document all the necessary elements for the development of the agricultural sector."
The need for the revival of farms was also voiced by Deputy Prime Minister Guram Melkoev, according to whom we have to pay more attention to food production.
"First of all, it is necessary to identify the necessary products for public consumption and to produce them. We must also open a food store, which will be supplied by districts` production, that will make the life of the residents of the Republic easier"- said Melkoev.
On his vision of solving the problem of agriculture has told the head of the Tskhinval district administration Alan Pliev, who believes that leasing farmland is the key to success in this area.
"It is also necessary to revive the state farms in a new form, using advanced technologies," - said Pliev. He has added that particular attention should be paid to simplifying the procedure of exporting agricultural products to foreign markets.
