Statement of the RSO Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Inal Tasoev on the occasion of the Day of the Missing

Today all over the world is being commemorated the Day of the Missing.
In South Ossetia the problem of the missing persons is very urgent as about 140 citizens of South Ossetia are missing since the 1989-2008 Georgian aggression.

We are especially concerned about the fate of the three young guys, the youngest of which at that time was 14 years old. They were abducted by the Georgian law enforcement officers in October 2008 and were subjected to physical violence, as evidenced by the video, as well as by the investigation materials of the experts of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights under the Council of Europe. Despite the above evidence, the Georgian authorities still deny the fact of keeping these citizens of South Ossetia in prisons of Georgia.
The leadership and official representatives of South Ossetia constantly raise the question of the fate of the missing citizens of South Ossetia at the international discussions, talks and other events with the participation of the Georgian side and the international human rights organizations.
