A new Orthodox church has opened in South Ossetia

In the district centre of Znaur in South Ossetia has been celebrated the first Holy Mass in the newly opened church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Mass was attended by the President of South Ossetia Leonid Tibilov, representatives of the Republican leadership, the villagers.

The Alan Diocese Bishop Ambrose Mefonsky has noted the importance of today's event, stressing that this is the first temple in South Ossetia built since the collapse of communism.
"The temple was built in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may God bless those who made efforts to build it," - said the bishop, addressing the parishioners.
In turn, Leonid Tibilov has also expressed his gratitude to all who took part in the construction of the temple.
"The opening of the temple will serve the unity of our people - the president said. - Such events will promote the development of the church and the Republic as a whole."
The Head of State and Presidential Commissioner for Religious Affairs Sonia Khubaeva donated the icons to the new church.
At the end of the ceremony the participants of the event took part in the cross procession around the new temple.
