The Committee on Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism of South Ossetia intends to continue the work on establishing the National Olympic Committee, has stated today at a press conference in Tskhinval the head of the Committee Sergei Zasseev.

"The former leadership of the Committee had been actively discussing this question. Was fixed the date of the founding congress, conducted some preparatory work, in particular, established various sports federations, but the congress has not been held,"- said Zasseev, promising that this year's work to establish the National Olympic Committee will be continued.
According to him, there are no obstacles to 24 sports federations of South Ossetia to gather and hold a founding congress.
"This is only the first step. Next we need to turn to the International Olympic Committee, to announce our intention to participate in international competitions, "- said Zasseev.
He believes that the partial recognition of South Ossetia is not an obstacle to take part in the Olympics and other international competitions.
"Recently the Japanese contacted us and asked about our possible participation in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. We`ve explained that in South Ossetia winter sports are not developed,"- said Zasseev, adding South Ossetia expects to participate in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in 2016.
The head of the Committee has added that South Ossetia has applied to participate in the world soccer championship of the countries, which are not members of FIFA.
"Currently the application is under consideration of the organizers of the tournament," - said Zasseev.
