The security issue of South Ossetia is one of the most important areas for cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia, said Russian Ambassador Marat Kulakhmetov at a news conference in Tskhinval.

He has stressed that over the past 10 years a number of agreements have been signed between the parties, according to which the 4th Russian military base and the Russian FSB Border Department are deployed on the territory of the Republic.

"Russian border guards and the servicemen have taken on the security of South Ossetia," Kulakhmetov said.

According to the Russian diplomat, the agreement on alliance and integration between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia, signed in 2015, has developed previously signed agreements in the field of defense.

"Today, Russia and South Ossetia are creating a common space for defense and security, which will reliably guarantee the protection of the Republic from any encroachments," the Ambassador said.
