Immortal regiment of South Ossetia is searching for the burial places of Ossetians in the Crimea

The headquarters of the Immortal regiment of South Ossetia found the burial places of 952 residents of the Republic who had disappeared since the Great Patriotic War, said the head of the headquarters, Minister of Culture of the Republic Zhanna Zasseyeva.

“952 graves were found, according to 119 statements we are waiting for some positive response. We received information from the organization "Memory of Crimea" that a lot of Soviet soldiers with Ossetian names were buried in the Crimea. We do not know yet where their graves are, but the Immortal Regiment is conducting the work,” the Minister noted.

She has added that volunteers from among students, as well as non-working pensioners, are currently working at the Immortal Regiment's Headquarters.

The headquarters of the Immortal regiment in South Ossetia began working on March 1, 2014. It is conducting a great deal of research and educational work. Among the priority directions is the clarification of the fate of the inhabitants of the Republic who went missing on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.

In 1941, 21,736 people left for the Great Patriotic War, of whom more than 7,500 went missing.
