South Ossetia and Syria discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation

An algorithm for further joint steps will be determined at the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission

The delegation of South Ossetia led by Deputy Prime Minister- Minister of Economic Development Gennady Bekoev met in Damascus with Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Syria, Khaled Abo Faker, as well as with the heads of the leading Syrian industrial companies, IT technology, air transportation and pharmaceuticals , the IA "Res" was informed by the press service of the government.

Formal meetings took place before the official opening of the 61st international fair in Damascus, where the government delegation of South Ossetia is taking part.

According to Gennady Bekoev, during the meetings they discussed issues of trade and economic interaction between the two republics in these areas.

In accordance with the previously signed interstate agreements, it was established the intergovernmental commission of the Republic of South Ossetia and the SAR for trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation.

“The governments of Syria and South Ossetia, each for their part, have formed commissions that are ready to fulfill the tasks of bilateral cooperation and quickly resolve the difficulties encountered in the implementation of the agreements between the two republics,” said Gennady Bekoev.

He has also noted that the algorithm for further joint steps will be determined at the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, which should be held before the end of the year.

The 61st Damascus International Fair is being held under the patronage of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Bashar Hafez al-Assad. Damascus International Fair is one of the oldest and largest exhibitions in the Middle East. In 2017, the fair resumed its work after a five-year break.
