The situation on the border between South Ossetia and Georgia is on the agenda of the meeting in the IPRM format

On Thursday morning, in the Georgian village of Ergneti, bordering South Ossetia, will be held a meeting in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM).

As reported to IA "Res" by Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, the South Ossetian party will strongly demand the immediate withdrawal of all Georgian armed forces from the border territory and the cessation of illegal construction works, this issue is on the agenda.

Earlier, the Foreign Ministry regarded the actions of Georgia as an expression of a direct threat to the people of South Ossetia and stated that in the event of further escalation of tension and complication of the situation, all appropriate countermeasures would be taken to protect the territorial integrity of the Republic of South Ossetia and ensure the safety of its citizens.

"In this regard, South Ossetia appeals to the EU observer Mission in Georgia, as well as to the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia with a warning about the real danger of a new armed confrontation and further escalation of the situation and calls on all participants in the process of the Georgian - Ossetian settlement to exert appropriate pressure on the Georgian side in order to stop further provoking tension," the foreign Ministry said.

At the IPRM meeting, security issues are examined along the perimeter of the state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia. The delegation of South Ossetia at the IPRM meetings is headed by Yegor Kochiev, Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy for post-conflict settlement. The meetings are held with the participation of representatives of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Russian Federation, Georgia, as well as the OSCE and EUMM representatives.
