Georgia has once again raised the degree of tension on the border line of the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia by firing in the direction of the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Presidential Executive Office said.

"Thus, Georgia has confirmed its aggressive intentions towards South Ossetia and created a situation dangerous for residents of the border villages," the Presidential Executive Office noted.

Earlier, the State Committee for Security of South Ossetia reported that on the morning of September 1, 2012, an unmanned aerial vehicle (such as a shooting quadrocopter), attached to a joint group of power structures of South Ossetia carrying out a humanitarian operation to ensure the safety of residents of the village of Uista (Tsnelis), conducted video surveillance in the area of the state border crossing.

At about 10.00 from the Georgian settlement Kobe of the Khashur municipality on a quadrocopter without any warning was opened heavy gun and machine-gun fire in the direction of the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia.

As a result, the quadrocopter was shot down and fell in the area of the state border of South Ossetia and Georgia.

The KGB has added that previously similar Georgian aircraft repeatedly in the daytime and at night carried out reconnaissance along the state border and over civilian objects, which are guarded by units of the KGB RSO and PU FSB RF units in the RSO.

For this KGB RSO incident, steps have been taken to inform the EU Observer Mission, as well as the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

At the same time, the Presidential Executive Office considers it necessary to state that the shelling of the South Ossetian civilian UAV in the direction of the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia is a direct provocation and proof of the fact that the Georgian side was incomplete, its orientation towards the escalation of another armed conflict against the Republic.

The State Security Committee and the power structures of the Republic, which are part of the consolidated group (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defense, General Prosecutor's Office), are monitoring the situation in the area of the village of Uista and provide security in this direction.

"We draw the attention of the fraternal countries of the South Caucasus, interested in maintaining peace in the region, as well as Russia, the European Union and the wider international community, to the situation and the possible further escalation of the conflict," the Presidential Executive Office concluded in connection with the current situation.
