South Ossetian authorities are waiting for an extension of the mandate of Serbian expert Dushan Ignatovich, who has been dealing with the issues of South Ossetian citizens to be listed missing since 2008, Murat Dzhioyev, Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement, told reporters at a briefing.

According to him, the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions, who arrived in South Ossetia to discuss the agenda of the upcoming round in Geneva, informed the South Ossetian party that they were waiting for the Georgian authorities to agree to extend the mandate of Dusan Ignatovich.

“For the work of an expert in Georgia, the consent of the government is necessary. We hope that the Georgian authorities will still respect the people who are listed missing, their relatives, and will continue to cooperate with the OSCE on this issue, ”Dzhioev said.

Referring to Ignatovich's previous report on the search for missing citizens of South Ossetia, the Plenipotentiary noted that it did not contain any consoling results for the South Ossetian party.

“The report contains practically nothing new, in the sense to please us with information about those people who have been missing for so many years,” Dzhioev said.

It should be reminded that the OSCE independent expert, Dushan Ignatovich, began searching for the missing citizens of South Ossetia in October 2015. Since then, the mandate of his work has been renewed annually.
