As part of a trip to St. Petersburg to celebrate the 270th anniversary of the First Embassy of Ossetia in Russia, President Anatoly Bibilov visited the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. Herzen. According to the press service of the head of state, for the delegation of South Ossetia, it was organized an excursion of the oldest pedagogical university in Europe, founded in 1797.

The excursion included a visit to the palace of Count Razumovsky and the palace theater, which are part of the university complex. In the historical part of the University library, the delegation visited the Department of rare books. A collection of books dedicated to Ossetia was demonstrated especially for the guests.

According to the employee of the library, among the presented books there are editions of the XVII century about the travels to Ossetia of historians, including foreign ones, who told about this region in Europe.

“These are the travels of Guldenstedt, as well as the descriptions of Klaproth. It is interesting, these scientists in St. Petersburg were members of the Academy of Sciences: Germans in the Russian Academy of Sciences wrote about Ossetia.

Vsevolod Miller is also important for us, because he was a teacher of the women's pedagogical Institute, from which our University traces its history, " the guide noted.

Anatoly Bibilov thanked the representatives of the university for the great work and care for the old editions.

President of South Ossetia also met with the rector of the Russian State Pedagogical University Sergei Bogdanov, who spoke about the directions and opportunities of the university, and also expressed readiness for cooperation.

“For us, contacts with the regions of the former Soviet Union, the CIS countries, and South Ossetia are very important. Recently, international activity has been a priority for us. We are ready to organize targeted trainings; we also have a number of unique units for training people with disabilities.

Your visit and today's lecture are of great importance. I hope that cooperation will continue for the benefit of Russia and South Ossetia,” he said.

The head of the South Ossetian state thanked the rector and his colleagues for conducting a brief excursion into the history and careful storage of the library fund.

“Dear Sergey Yuryevich, I am pleased to visit your educational institution with a long history. I want to thank your colleagues who showed us the library. It has really impressed not only by old books, but also by careful attitude of the staff. Of course, we were pleased to see the books directly related to Ossetia, to get acquainted with the works of foreign scientists on the history of Ossetia,” said Anatoly Bibilov.

Speaking about cooperation, President of South Ossetia has noted that there are aspirations and opportunities to conclude an agreement and establish cooperation with the South Ossetian State University.

“I consider this a serious incentive for our students. The possibilities of remote interaction, even at the library level, are also interesting. And, of course, so that high school graduates of South Ossetia can get higher education at your university. Many prominent representatives of Ossetia made their first steps in St. Petersburg. Spiritual and cultural ties with the Russian Federation have existed since ancient times. We must continue to strengthen this thread,” said Anatoly Bibilov.
