South Ossetian Foreign Ministry has suspended the issuance of visas for foreigners, this does not apply to Russian citizens

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia announced on Monday a decision to suspend the issuance of permits to enter the Republic for foreign citizens (except for citizens of the Russian Federation) for a month.

According to the press service of the Foreign ministry on Monday evening, the decision was made according to the order of the Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia.

" Taking into account the order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia concerning the current global epidemiological situation of the incidence of novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to prevent penetration of the disease into the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia Ministry of foreign Affairs informs about the decision to suspend the issuance of permits to enter the Republic of South Ossetia for foreign citizens (except for citizens of the Russian Federation) from 16 March 2020 15 April 2020", - stated in the message of the foreign Ministry.

Earlier it was reported that the decision of the operational headquarters to counteract coronavirus infection in South Ossetia introduced a ban on cultural events due to the global coronavirus pandemic and the situation in the neighboring Georgian state.

In order to prevent the penetration and spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the territory of South Ossetia, the sanitary service requires strengthening sanitary and epidemiological safety measures. The Committee of the South Ossetpotrebnadzor sent appropriate letters with recommendations to ministries and departments.

According to the Committee, no case of coronavirus has been identified in South Ossetia at the moment. Schools and kindergartens, as well as the government agencies are operating normally.

In the neighboring Georgia of South Ossetia, 33 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus were confirmed; 637 people are in quarantine. The number of people infected with coronavirus in Russia has grown almost one and a half times - from 63 to 93 people, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said on Monday.
