The South Ossetian side insists on a meeting in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism after almost a year break, negotiations are tentatively scheduled for July 30, the head of the South Ossetian delegation at the meetings in this format Yegor Kochiev told IA “Res ”.

“A preliminary agreement has been reached. For several weeks, taking into account the recent incidents at the border, there were intensive consultations on the hotline in order to find the possibility of resuming meetings in the IPRM format,”Kochiev said.

He has noted that the meeting will be held in compliance with security measures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The escalation of tension on the border of South Ossetia with Georgia began last year, on August 23, when the Georgian side, violating the state border, set up an illegal checkpoint near the village of Uista.

The South Ossetian delegation within the framework of the meeting in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) on August 29 demanded from the Georgian representatives remove the checkpoint and, having been refused, left the meeting.

After that, seven technical meetings were held in the IPRM format, but their participants did not come to a compromise. The South Ossetian authorities took measures to ensure security on the border section near the village of Uista. The General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic opened a criminal case on the fact of illegal border crossing by Georgian armed formations.
