The decision of the Russian Federation on the recognition of South Ossetia on August 26, 2008 was legally justified and impeccable from the moral, ethical, humane, human positions, said President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov, speaking on Tuesday at a solemn meeting timed to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the recognition of the RSO by the RF ...

In that truly tragic situation for South Ossetia, when the issue of its life and death was being resolved, only Russia took real steps to protect the civilian population and stopped the mad aggressor who intended to wipe South Ossetia and all its inhabitants off the face of the earth. While the world community dispassionately watched how the operation "Open Field" launched by Georgia would end, the Russian army moved to stop the brutal aggressor. Russian soldiers and officers went into battle without hesitation and doubts about the fairness of the cause for which they are going to fight. They went to rescue Russian peacekeepers and save the lives of civilians in South Ossetia who were indiscriminately exterminated by criminals in Georgian military uniforms, ”the President said.

According to him, the combat power of the Russian army has radically changed the picture of hostilities.

“After the clashes with the approaching Russian forces on the territory of South Ossetia, the Georgian troops went into a swift retreat and soon laid down their arms, realizing that the continuation of the campaign they had started could result in extremely unpleasant consequences for them. Georgia was forced to peace; the necessary conditions were created for the transition to the resolution of problems at the negotiating table. However, the head of the Georgian state, who completely lost touch with reality, refused to discuss further relations in the light of new realities between Georgia on the one hand, and South Ossetia and Abkhazia, on the other, "the head of state emphasized.

According to the President, it was obvious that the only way to prevent new aggression from Georgia could only be the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which would create the necessary international legal foundations to ensure the security and protection of their peoples, strengthen international peace and regional stability.

“This step has been taken. The Russian Federation, which stood up to protect the civilian population of South Ossetia in August 2008, was the first to recognize the independence of South Ossetia, opening up opportunities for our people to build a free life. Fraternal Abkhazia was recognized together with South Ossetia,” Bibilov added.

The head of state stressed that "the recognition of independence marked the beginning of a new historical era for the people of South Ossetia - an era of peace, freedom and prosperity, and the years of bloody wars and difficult trials to be in the past".
