On Friday Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko discussed with the co-chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia – the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar and the OSCE Representative for the South Caucasus Rudolf Mikhalka security issues in the region, in particular the situation in the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-South Ossetian borders.

"It was held a thorough exchange of views on topical issues of regional security. A common interest was confirmed in the maximum use of the existing dialogue formats, including the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) on the Georgian-South Ossetian border at the Ergneti observation post, which resumed its work on July 30, and there is also a similar mechanism on the Georgian-Abkhaz border at the Gale observation post, the potential of which is not yet being fully used, "the message says.

As informed by the Ministry, against the background of preparations for the next round of Geneva discussions, Russian diplomats stressed the need to delimit borders and resume negotiations on the agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia and Abkhazia, Georgia and South Ossetia.
