The next session in Tskhinval with the participation of Russian parliamentarians is scheduled for Friday 16:00. This was reported by the press service of the Republic’s legislative body.

"There is one question on the agenda of the session: Speech by members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation," the press service has noted.

The Russian parliamentary delegation arrived in South Ossetia on a working visit. The parliamentarians intend to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and the situation in general.

Meetings within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation are held on an ongoing basis, both in the Parliament of South Ossetia and in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The agreement between the Parliament of South Ossetia and the Federation Council on inter-parliamentary cooperation was signed in September 2008.

On the political situation in South Ossetia

Sessions of the South Ossetian Parliament were disrupted several times last week due to lack of a quorum.

President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov twice sent letters to the Chairman of the Republic's Parliament, Alan Tadtaev, demanding to convene an extraordinary session of Parliament in connection with the current socio-political situation in the Republic, but both times the session was disrupted due to the fact that some of the deputies did not attend the session. Bibilov did not rule out the dissolution of the Parliament.

After the protests at the end of August, caused by the death of the detainee, the Parliament of the Republic demanded the resignation of the Prosecutor General. Later, 17 out of 34 parliamentary deputies, without waiting for a response from the President, announced their intention to suspend the work in the Parliament until the issue of resignation of the Prosecutor General was resolved. This does not allow the Parliament to collect a quorum for making decisions, including on the approval of the new Prime Minister and the adoption of the country's budget.
