The events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide will begin on June 20 at 10:00 am with the laying of flowers at the monument to 13 Communards at the Zguder Cemetery, the press service of the South Ossetian Ministry of Culture told the IA “Res”.

“On Theatre Square, places will be determined where everyone will be able to light candles during the day, thereby paying tribute to the memory of the victims of the genocide,” the agency's source said.

It should be reminded that on June 20, the Republic will honor the memory of the victims of the permanent genocide of Ossetians, committed by Georgia, the end of which was put only by the liberation of South Ossetia by Russia in 2008.

By the decree of President Anatoly Bibilov in 2020, this date was declared the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the genocide of the people of South Ossetia, committed by Georgia.

This tragic date, filled with pain and suffering of tens of thousands of victims of 1920, 1989-2008, and carried in the memory of the people through the years, is today an obvious reminder of how dearly the people of South Ossetia paid for their independence, through what hardships and losses had to go through. On this day, 101 years ago, 13 Communards were shot.
