The issue of preparing for the 100th anniversary of the tragic date - the genocide of the Ossetian people of 1920-1921 was discussed at a meeting of the Committee on National Politics, Culture, Religion and the Media, the press service reported.

The Commission on the Memorialization of the Genocide committed against South Ossetians by the Georgian Democratic Republic in 1920 discussed an action plan dedicated to the centenary of genocide. The meeting was held in Tskhinval, chaired by Prime Minister Eric Pukhaev.
The State Duma is counting on cooperation with Georgia in considering the appeal of the South Ossetian Parliament on the genocide of Ossetians by Tbilisi, said the State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
"We hope that Georgia, for its part, will help and build communications in considering this issue. The accusations are very serious, they should certainly be based on reasoning, objective events, we will study all this," Volodin told Russian journalists on Monday.
The problem of recognition of the genocide of South Ossetians by Georgia in 1920 is exclusively in the legal plane. This position was made by the head of the RISI Caucasus Studies sector, Arthur Ataev.
According to the expert, now the representatives of South Ossetia must, in accordance with international law, prove that they had factual grounds.
As noted by Ataev , the genocide has long been recognized at the level of popular consciousness and historical work.
Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin instructed to submit an appeal of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia on the recognition of the genocide of South Ossetians in 1920 by Georgia to the Council of the Duma for the nearest consideration.

These are the names of 13 Communards who were shot in 1920. Their memory was honored at the Zguder cemetery, where a memorial monument to the heroes of the Communards is installed.
