South Ossetia would like to become an observer in the CIS IPA, - the head of the Parliamentary Committee

The parliamentarians of South Ossetia would like to receive the status of observers at the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS states, said Igor Kochiev, head of the Foreign Policy Committee of the South Ossetian Parliament.

The South Ossetian delegation took part in a meeting of the cooperation commission of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and the Parliament of South Ossetia.

According to Igor Kochiev, who heads the delegation, representatives of the Ossetian people in the Federation Council and the State Duma from time to time raise the issue that "South Ossetia to some extent being represented in this format."

"My suggestion is to assist us to ensure that the parliamentarians of South Ossetia enter the CIS IPA as observers. This is our proposal," Kochiev said.

"I would like to ask the members of the Commission that we somehow raise this question and work it out by the next time. – and we will be able to do it specifically," he added.

The Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) was established on March 27, 1992, in accordance with the agreement signed by the heads of the founding parliaments. In 1995, the status of the CIS IPA as an independent interstate organization, was finally consolidated in Minsk, at a meeting of the Council of the Heads of the CIS States. In May 1995, the leaders of the CIS countries signed the CIS IPA Convention, which was subsequently ratified by the parliaments of nine countries of the Commonwealth.

In accordance with the document, the IPA received all the rights of the international organization. The headquarters of the CIS IPA is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg, in the Tauride Palace.
