“One thing can be said with regret and quite definitely: Georgia, which is usual for all Soviet people, no longer exists, it ended in 1990 with the coming to power of new Georgian nationalists. The stereotype under the name "sunny Georgia», used by residents of the USSR and in recent years, by citizens of Russia, disappeared. In this regard, "now it has become finally clear even to skeptics that South Ossetia will never again be part of Georgia. We are not on our way with the Nazis," he believes.
According to Medoev, "alliance with Russia is the historical choice of the Ossetian people, and this choice has deep roots and its rich history." “This year marks the 270th anniversary of the first Ossetian embassy in St. Petersburg. It was then that the foundations of the modern Ossetian-Russian relations were laid,” he recalled.
On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia fired South Ossetia from a Grad volley fire, Georgian troops attacked the Republic and destroyed part of its capital, Tskhinval. Russia, defending the citizens of South Ossetia, many of whom accepted Russian citizenship, sent troops into the Republic and, after five days of hostilities, ousted the Georgian military from the region. Moscow on August 26, 2008 recognized the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The leaders of Russia have repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision.
