Events dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day will be held in Tskhinval on February 23, the press service of the Ministry of Culture of South Ossetia told the “Res” news agency.
“On Wednesday, at 11.00 am, will take place the ceremony of laying the Garland of Memory and Glory to the Monument to the Defenders of the Fatherland on Tuganov Street, in the capital of our Republic. On the same day, at 12.00, a grand meeting dedicated to the Defender of the Fatherland Day will be held,” the press service said.
It should be noted that in honor of the significant date, lessons of courage are also being held in the educational institutions of the Republic.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated by South Ossetia, along with Russia, annually on February 23rd.
The holiday was established on January 27, 1922 in the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (RSFSR). It corresponds directly with the Red Army, the date of its formation and the battles with the German Imperial Army in February 1918.
Defender of the Fatherland Day is considered the day of military glory, a holiday of men and women who participated in the defense of the Motherland.
