Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of South Ossetia, headed by Minister, Major General of Militia Alan Guchmazov, as well as the personnel and veterans of the Vadim Gazzaev OMON, laid wreaths and flowers at the obelisk of the riot police, perished while repelling the Georgian aggression, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
“Six members of the special police detachment died in bloody battles on the territory of the fuel and energy complex in June 1992. The obelisk, erected at the place of the death of special forces fighters, has become a symbol of courage, resilience and heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland - Stanislav Gabaraev, Zurab Gubaev, Gennady Dzhabiev, Yury Kozhukhov, Alexander Mikhailenko and Grigory Sanakoev. Their names entered the history of the struggle of the Ossetian people for independence. Streets and schools in Tskhinval are named after the heroes,” the statement of the press service reads.
OMON was formed in February 1992. The founder and first commander of the detachment was Vadim Gazzaev.
