South Ossetia is celebrating the Day of Peacekeeper

Celebrations, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the entry of the Russian peacekeepers in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict - the Day of Peacemaker- will be held today in South Ossetia.
A solemn meeting of the public representatives -"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God"- will be held in the capital of the republic.

"The South Ossetian leadership, the guests of the republic and the servicemen of the military base will commemorate the peacekeepers who lost their lives during the peacekeeping operations;they will participate in a memorial service to be held in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tskhinval," – has been said IA "Res" in the presidential administration of South Ossetia.
"Garlands of Glory" and flowers will be put at the walls of the ruined town of the Russian peacekeeping battalion, which took first strike and was blunting the attack of the Georgian forces in August 2008; putting wreaths will also take place at the Memorial Cemetery in the courtyard of school number 5 and at the peacekeepers obelisk.
"It is assumed that the servicemen of the 4th military base and the invited guests will meet with the direct participants of the events, that took place in the territory of the military town in August 2008" – underlined a spokesman of the presidential administration.
In addition, the guests, and the Russian servicemen will be among the first visitors of the Peacekeeping operations museum.
It should be noted that on July 14, South Ossetia is celebrating the Day of Peacemaker. This day in 1992 the mixed peacekeeping forces were brought in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone. The peacekeepers were the only guarantor of the non-resumption of hostilities - for 16 years a fragile peace was maintained until August 2008.
The date of entry of the mixed peacekeeping forces is celebrated annually in the Republic as the Day of Peacemaker. One of the main streets in Tskhinval is named in tribute to the peacekeepers. .
