Crimea returned home, and South Ossetia is on the way, - Anatoly Bibilov

Our task is to make South Ossetia feeling more and more a part of Russia, I think, not much time will pass, and this will be possible to realize. I have no doubt that this will happen, - Sergey Tsekov, a member of the Committee of the Federation Council on international affairs.

Serious steps have been taken between South Ossetia and Russia in terms of integration, President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov said at a meeting with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

“Frankly speaking, we are somewhat jealous of the Republic of Crimea, because it has already returned home, and South Ossetia is still on its way home. Nevertheless, serious steps have been taken in terms of integration with Russia, in order to come tomorrow to ensure that the Republic is part of the Russian state. This is not the idle desire of every leader of our Republic, but the desire of the people who strive for this, and the relevant work is being and will be carried out in this direction,” the President said.

According to Bibilov, relations between South Ossetia and Russia are at a high level.

“The Russian Federation is the guarantor of security for the Republic of South Ossetia, a lot of projects are being implemented through the Investment Program: first of all, these are social facilities, infrastructure facilities, economic projects. Mutual relations between our countries indicate a high level of mutual trust between the two parties,” said Bibilov.

The President also noted the high level of interaction parliaments of the Russian Federation and South Ossetia.

“We see the fruitful work of the joint commission of the legislative bodies of our countries, there are many joint projects that you, as a leader from the Russian side, promote, doing a lot of good and necessary for our Republic,” the President said, addressing the representative of the legislative body of the Republic of Crimea (co-chairman of the Russian part of the commission) Sergey Tsekov.

The head of state has noted that within the framework of the work of the V International Yalta Forum, a cooperation agreement will be signed with the Crimea, as well as an agreement on twinning between Kerch and Tskhinval.

The President also spoke about the investments of the Crimean entrepreneurs in the Republic.

“Last year, a wine factory was established here, and a project is underway to plant vineyards in South Ossetia by the forces of Crimean entrepreneurs,” he said.

As noted by the representative of the legislative body of state power of the Republic of Crimea, a member of the committee of the Federation Council on international affairs, Sergey Tsekov, South Ossetia and the Crimea have long-standing ties since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

“You always followed the events taking place in our Republic, we also empathized you during the war in August 2008,” said Tsekov. “Today we see serious changes in your country,” when I came here for the first time, the theater was not yet functioning. Step by step, the Republic is developing, which is good news. And for us, it is extremely important to provide comprehensive assistance to South Ossetia.”

Tsekov has expressed the hope that South Ossetia will become part of Russia in the future.

The delegation of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation is on a working visit to South Ossetia. The program of the delegation’s stay in the republic includes summits, participation in a meeting of the Commission on Cooperation of the Parliament of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, a press conference, and a visit to the play "Antigone" in the new State Drama Theater.
