In South Ossetia, the news of the death of the Italian journalist, publicist, political and public figure Julietto Chiesa was met with sorrow. A professional, the last knight of real objective journalism, Chiesa was one of the few who told the truth about the events in South Ossetia back in the early 90s. He remained a true friend of our Republic until the end. Julietto Chiesa is painfully remembered by everyone who had the honor of communicating with the outstanding personality of our time.

Without exaggeration, Julietto Chiesa can be called a person who really was a friend of South Ossetia,” said a journalist and expert Yuri Vazagov in a comment to IA “Res”.

Vazagov has noted that Chiesa was supporting South Ossetia for decades, and his death is a great loss for the South Ossetian people.

“From the moment of his first reporting on our Republic in the first years of the struggle for independence, and later, when the Republic was again subjected to aggression by Georgia, he was supporting us,” Vazagov said.

According to him, Chiesa came to South Ossetia in the most difficult moments of our history.

“He repeatedly came to South Ossetia in the most difficult years for us, including after the Georgian aggression in 2008. Chiesa made a significant contribution to the development of South Ossetia’s foreign policy contacts on the European continent, of course, first of all, in Italy itself, as well as among the political forces of the European countries, which today take a more impartial, balanced position regarding what is happening in the post-Soviet space, ”noted journalist.

Vazagov has also emphasized that Julietto Chiesa contributed to the dissemination of the objective information about the events in South Ossetia.

“Chiesa immediately after the August war helped our representatives to speak at the European venues. In addition, several years ago he was appointed representative of the South Ossetian Parliament in the European Parliament and in all those meetings and events that took place in Italy itself there is also his contribution and direct participation,” he added.

Giulietto Chiesa was a highly professional journalist who honestly carried out his professional duty, said the head of the journalism department of the South Ossetian State University Khansiat Kodalaeva.

"At various times, he collaborated with such major publications as La Stampa, Latin America, Literaturnaya Gazeta, Moskovskiye Novosti, and others. He headed the newspaper of the Italian Communist party, UNITA. He studied the problems of mass media coverage of topical issues of our time, in particular, issues of political, economic and military globalization. The working group that he organized to investigate the events of September 11, 2001, strongly criticized the generally accepted interpretation of the causes of the tragedy in the United States by the media.

Julietto Chiesa made great efforts to strengthen the friendship between Italy and Russia; He was bringing true information about South Ossetia to the world community and represented the interests of our Republic at various European platforms. He motivated the chosen position by fulfilling his journalistic and human duty.

Giulietto Chiesa will forever remain for us an example of honesty, deep decency and true professionalism, "Kodalaeva emphasized.

Giulietto Chiesa shocked me with his incredible tact, I knew about his unique intelligence, knowledge, professionalism, wisdom for a long time, says journalist Fatima Turmanova.

“I interviewed him for the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company IR in 2017 a couple of months before the presidential election. Due to the political confrontation in the Republic, the journalist, alas, was not met at the border as it should be to meet friends who had done so much for South Ossetia. Chiesa fully justified the actions of the South Ossetian authorities, pretending that everything was as it should have been. Tact, depth of thinking, wisdom, your own opinion on all issues - he will be remembered this way. His political views made him unable to travel to many countries, but the great journalist remained true to himself... I can only imagine how he was experiencing what was happening in his Italy, on the whole planet. His heart, could not stand, otherwise, I’m sure, he would shock the world with his investigations of the origins of the current pandemic. There will be no more such publicists. The titans are leaving A huge loss for both the world and Ossetia, "the journalist said.
