South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov congratulated each other on the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Foreign Ministry press service reports.

“The sacred holiday of the Great Victory has enormous unifying power for many peoples and generations. This is a day of enduring glory, military and civil valor, the fortitude of the multinational Soviet people, who stood shoulder to shoulder in the difficult struggle against fascism,” Akhsar Dzhioev’s congratulation message says.

The Minister has noted that in the conditions of the modern world, when there are attempts to distort the common history, it is everyone’s duty to be worthy descendants of the generation of winners, to preserve and pass on to new generations the truth about the great feat of the people, to cherish the bright memory of those who were heroically fighting at the front and were selflessly forging victory in the rear.

Sergei Lavrov has noted in his congratulations that May 9 is one of the most significant dates in the history of the Russian-South Ossetian relations. “The unparalleled courage and heroism of the Soviet soldiers and home front workers, who defended the freedom of the Motherland, still serve as a guide today for our peoples who are building a common destiny in a close alliance,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry has emphasized in the message.
