The meeting of the 1920 Genocide Memorialization Commission, the centenary of which will be celebrated in South Ossetia next year, was chaired by President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov.

The head of state noted that everything possible should be done to perpetuate the memory of the victims of the genocide carried out by Georgia against the people of South Ossetia and make every effort to convey to the world community about this fact in the history of the Republic.

The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia took part in the farewell ceremony with the ex-mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, the press service of the Embassy said.

A wreath was laid on behalf of the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov.

Earlier, Anatoly Bibilov sent a telegram of condolences to the current mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, relatives and friends of Yuri Luzhkov in connection with his death.

A delegation of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived in Tskhinval on a working visit. Russian law enforcement officers were received by Interior Minister, Major General of Police Igor Naniev, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

Russia is interested in a stable and safe situation on the borders of Georgia with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.

The situation of militarization of borders in the territories adjacent to South Ossetia is worrisome; issues must be addressed in the legal field. This was announced on Wednesday by Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Dmitry Demeshin.

“The situation of militarization of borders in the territories adjacent to South Ossetia is worrying. We see factors of external influences on this process and we want to say that our most important function is just demilitarization,” Demeshin said.

The issue of collecting and preparing materials on the genocide of the people of South Ossetia in 1920, necessary for submission to the State Duma and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was discussed at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on national politics, culture, religion and the media on Tuesday, the press service reported.
