The President of the Republic of South Ossetia stated Zar tragedy would always stay in the memory of the Ossetian people. “It is a tragic episode in the history of our people and it will forever stay in the hears and minds of all Ossetians, as a never-healing wound incurable neither through years nor through words of compassion,” said the president. “Our sacred duty before those, who died 20 May 1992, our brothers and sisters, to remember them and do everything possible to prevent similar tragedies in the future.”

”The Ossetian people, before and after the Zar tragedy, had repeatedly suffered the beastly, savage reflections of the Georgian fascism. The impunity of those people, who had cowardly shot dead women, elderly and children, made August 2008 possible. And then, the armed to teeth crowd, naming itself the Georgian army, brought down the deadly fire over the peaceful sleeping town. Again women, elderly and children were killed. This new aching wound deepened the grief and pain over innocent people killed”, stated Kokoity.
Talking about the intolerability of such tragedies in the future, the president underlined that “we imply the punishment for those who committed these atrocities, and first of all, those who had issued the criminal orders”.
“They should be brought to international tribunals and held responsible for their crimes. Their responsibility for crimes against humanity is not less than that of those who were indicted under the Nuremberg tribunal, and their punishment should not be less either”, he said.
