The head of the ICRC mission in South Ossetia Jan Mishkots has noted that 2013 and 2014 are important milestones in the history of the organization.
"We are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the organization, which was founded in 1863, as well as the 150th anniversary of the First Geneva Convention," - said Mishkots. - Throughout the existence of mankind millions of people have been suffering from horrors of war, and the ICRC has been making its long history of assisting and providing support to those who need it. "
He has noted that the exhibition includes photographs, which shows support for the victims of armed conflicts in different countries and at different times.
"Since the founding the ICRC has been promoting adherence to the norms and rules of international humanitarian law, - said Mishkots. - He appeals to all parties to the conflict to respect the rights and dignity of the victims. Today, as always, the ICRC is making its history, changing humanitarian approach to deal with these challenges with a single purpose - to satisfy the needs of those who have suffered injustice in armed conflicts. "
Mishkots has noted that to date, the ICRC Mission is in 88 countries and employs nearly 13,000 employees.
"In South Ossetia the Red Cross has an office since 2004, and in 2008, after the August war, the organization launched its emergency activities, which was later changed to the target and addresses the needs of the population, for the benefit of the most vulnerable part of the population of South Ossetia", - added Mishkots.
He has explained that, by acting as a neutral intermediary, the mission continues its work on the missing persons, to restore family links and promoting access to emergency health care.
"The ICRC is also trying to find solutions to water supply problems in rural areas and provides regular assistance to the most vulnerable families and individuals with the support of the authorities of South Ossetia",- said Mishkots.
The ICRC public relations officer in South Ossetia Marina Tedety has also noted that the exhibition explores how the ICRC provides assistance to victims of the conflict.
"The exhibition is mobile, said Tedety.- It was first opened at the Lumière Museum of photography, then in the North Caucasus republics and now here. In December the exhibition will return to Moscow".
