General Secretary of the Boxing Federation of Russia Umar Kremlev during an interview with one of the Russian publications said that in recent years the number of boxers in Russia had grown by 15%. He has also noted that the popularity of boxing in North Ossetia has increased thanks to Murat Gassiev.

“For two and a half years, the number of boxers in Russia, according to our study, has grown by 15%. It seems to me a lot. In some regions, the growth is even more evident. North Ossetia, thanks to Murat Gassiev, “fell ill” with boxing, where it now is competing with wrestling. Over the same period, more than 130 boxing halls were built in Russia. And this is a consequence of the built-up system of relations between the Boxing Federation of Russia and regional federations,” he said, reports the “15-Region”.

It should be noted that the former world champion in versions of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the first heavyweight, the 25-year-old Murat Gassiev, has 26 wins (19 by KO) and one defeat. As previously reported by Kremlev, the debut fight of the Russian heavyweight boxer against American Joey Daveiko is planned for October.
