No one has the right to deprive South Ossetia of the only guarantor of peace and stability. We will not allow anyone to do this, especially since this is impossible in principle - South Ossetian-Russian relations are built on a solid legal basis: two interstate treaties and more than 100 intergovernmental agreements, the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev said in an interview with the American edition of Newsweek.

During the interview with the Minister the Newsweek correspondent Tom O'Connor said that eight Western countries - the United States, Belgium, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Norway and Ireland – had called for the withdrawal of Russian troops and the restoration of Georgian control over South Ossetia. The journalist asked Medoev to comment on these calls.

“We heard about this and were very surprised by this statement of the “friends of Georgia”,” Medoev said.

According to him, special agreements between the Russian Federation and the RSO also regulate the presence of the Russian military contingent on the territory of South Ossetia.

“South Ossetia has never been part of Georgia except during the Soviet period from 1921 to 1990. It was the Bolsheviks who forcibly included the southern part of Ossetia into Soviet Georgia. A counter question arises to the countries you mentioned: is this statement state the recognition of the laws and territorial integrity of the USSR in relation to modern Georgia? I think this is nonsense and absolutely incorrect formulation of the issue on the part of the respected states, ”the Minister stressed.

He has added that if the Soviet Union no longer exists for almost 30 years, then its borders do not exist either, which, according to him is logical.

“It is high time for everyone and, first of all, for the “friends of Georgia” to understand that South Ossetia will never again be a part of Georgia, this is ruled out. We value peace, especially in the year of the 100th anniversary of the genocide committed by the government of "democratic" Georgia in 1920 in South Ossetia, its significance for us increases many times over. Remembering this is a matter of life prospects for our people,”Medoev said.

When asked whether South Ossetia is supporting the struggle of the people of Donbass, the Mnister has noted that the Republic is in solidarity with them.

“We are supporting the people of Donbass, who, like the South Ossetian people, were subjected to military aggression, which resulted in the death of many civilians. We consider the actions of Ukraine against its people a crime, ”the Minister said, adding that sooner or later the guilty will have to answer for it, sitting in the same dock with their colleagues - Georgian criminals.
