The Armenian community of South Ossetia made a statement in connection with the aggravation of the situation in the zone of the Karabakh conflict.
"We, representatives Of the Armenian community of the Republic of South Ossetia, have received with deep regret the news of the treacherous attack and the unleashing of large-scale military operations against our people in Artsakh, launched on September 27, 2020 by the armed forces of Azerbaijan with the most active support of Turkey," the statement adopted at the community meeting reads.
As noted by the community, the peaceful cities of the Republic of Artsakh were subjected to a malicious and cynical attack.
“Active hostilities are underway along the entire contact line. Our brothers and sisters are being killed, both civilians and defenders of the Fatherland. We express our deepest condolences to all the families and friends of the victims, - said representatives of the community. "We strongly condemn the act of unleashing a large-scale armed aggression of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh and call on the world community, representatives of the South Ossetian public to condemn the actions of Azerbaijan against the Republic of Artsakh, leading to the disruption of the peace process to resolve the conflict and destabilize the situation in Transcaucasia."
The Community representatives are deeply outraged by "the cynical lies emanating from the media of Azerbaijan and its political leadership, right up to President Aliyev."
“Thus, the Azerbaijani authorities are deliberately misleading the entire world community, as Georgia once presented the Georgian aggression against South Ossetia. Here, in South Ossetia, we know firsthand what a war is, since 1989, living and being in South Ossetia with our Ossetian brothers and sisters have gone through all the horrors of the war unleashed by Georgia against South Ossetia. In August 2008, Georgia attacked a sleeping Tskhinval, like Azerbaijan today in our native Artsakh, many Armenians then stood up to defend their Motherland together with our Ossetian brothers, many unfortunately perished. Russia in August 2008 came to the aid of the people of South Ossetia, subsequently recognized the state independence. Relevant allied agreements were concluded, according to which Russia ensures the security of the Republic of South Ossetia and a peaceful life returned to the Republic,” the text says.
The community representatives are confident that only international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh and security guarantees will become the guarantee of the long-awaited peace on the fraternal land.
On Thursday, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian stated that the Caucasus could turn into a second Syria if the international community does not achieve a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
