The members of the South Ossetian delegation stated this fact during a meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia, who had arrived in Tskhinval on Thursday.

He has added that at the meeting with the co-chairs, the issues of preparation for the next round of Geneva discussions were also discussed.

"This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was not a single round of Geneva discussions, although the South Ossetian delegation periodically held videoconferences with the co-chairs, and the mechanism in the IPRM format were working, as well as a hot line," Dzhioev said.

According to the Plenipotentiary, all the participants in the meeting, noting the importance of the Geneva discussions in maintaining stability and security in the region, "consider it very important to hold an in-person round, which is scheduled for December this year."

“The South Ossetian party has noted that despite the pandemic, it is very important to hold a meeting in Geneva against the background of the events that have recently taken place in the Transcaucasia, the need to strengthen work on the main task of the discussions - ensuring the security of the people of South Ossetia from Georgia. It has been noted, in this regard, that it is important to continue working on the development of a legally binding documents on the non-use of force by Georgia against our Republic and Abkhazia,” the head of the South Ossetian delegation emphasized.

The Geneva discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia are scheduled for December 10-11, exactly one year after the last round and are the only platform for dialogue between Tskhinval, Sukhum and Tbilisi. The basis is the agreements between the presidents of the Russian Federation and France, reached after the act of aggression by Georgia in August 2008. Representatives of South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia and the United States, as well as the UN, the European Union and the OSCE observers, take part in the talks in Geneva.

The main goal of the discussions is the signing of a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between South Ossetia and Georgia, Abkhazia and Georgia. The last round took place in December 2019.
