Minister of Defense of South Ossetia Ibrahim Gasseev received an invitation from the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu to take part in the IX Moscow Conference on International Security, which will be held April 21-23 this year. This was reported by the press service of the defense department.

The organizer of a large-scale event is the Ministry of Defense of Russia.

The letter says that the forum will be held on the eve of the anniversary of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and the end of the Second World War.

“These events have become the cornerstone of the formation of a global security system that has allowed humanity to avoid global wars,” the Russian Defense Ministerreports,.

Army General Sergei Shoigu has also noted that currently there is a degradation of the existing mechanisms for maintaining global stability in the world, the number of regional conflicts is increasing, the activity of terrorist organizations is growing, cyberspace and space are involved in the sphere of armed confrontation.

“As a result, unpredictability of the development of the situation is observed, the likelihood of developing incidents that can lead to a global crisis is growing.

In these conditions, as never before, a dialogue of professionals, military specialists and experts is able to competently and impartially discuss the ways and means of neutralizing new threats and challenges in the security sphere,” the invitation said.

It should be reminded that last year, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Gasseev participated in the Moscow International Conference on International Security. The head of the South Ossetian defense department made a report at the plenary session "International peacekeeping: new approaches and military cooperation."

Lieutenant General Gasseev spoke about the experience of peacekeeping on the example of the Joint Control Commission and the Joint Peacekeeping Force as part of the Russian, Georgian and Ossetian battalions, which were deployed to South Ossetia in July 1992. The Minister of Defense also spoke about the significant geopolitical, economic, and other consequences of the August 2008 war. The Minister of Defense reminded that Russia recognized the independence of the republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, after which the concept of peace for the people of South Ossetia moved to a new quality.
