The Republic of South Ossetia must follow the path traversed by the Crimea to reunite with Russia, said President of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov.
"The people of South Ossetia are happy for the Republic of Crimea, which has returned to its native harbor. Since the 1990s, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, South Ossetia has done everything to become part of Russia, realizing that the Ossetian people are divided today ... I think that the path traversed by the Crimea will certainly be followed by the Republic of South Ossetia in this direction, " Bibilov told journalists at the Yalta International Economic Forum.
According to him, time has shown that the decision of the Crimean people to reunite with Russia was definitely correct and absolutely legal.
“No any sanctions will prevent this fact,” said Bibilov.
The Yalta International Economic Forum is an annual business event in the economic sphere held in Crimea. In 2019, the forum is being held from April 18 to April 20. The organizers expect more than 3 thousand participants from about 100 countries of the world. MIA "Russia Today" is the general information partner of the Forum.
Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum held there in March 2014, in which 96.77% of voters in the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining the Russian Federation. Crimean authorities held a referendum after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014. The leadership of the Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea in a democratic way, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter, voted for reunification with Russia. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the issue of the Crimea is “completely closed”.
