For the fifth time, South Ossetia and Georgia will gather for a technical meeting on a single issue, the removal of the Georgian illegal roadblock in the vicinity of the village of Tsnelis, said Yegor Kochiev, head of the South Ossetian delegation at the meetings within the framework of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).
The technical meeting of the IPRM will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00, on the border of South Ossetia, in the area of the Georgian settlement of Ergneti.
"The dialogue will continue, as we need to talk and seek a solution to this issue exclusively by peaceful means. South Ossetia will once again voice the option of solving the problem that has developed in connection with the putting up of a Georgian police post in the village of Tsnelis," Kochiev said.
According to him, the removal of the roadblock in the Tsnelis area will solve the current situation and relieve tension. "For us, the removal of this post is of fundamental importance, since it is absolutely unacceptable that armed people of the neighboring state of Georgia are on the territory of our Republic," Kochiev said.
About the situation on the border
In late August, South Ossetia reported that Georgian police had put up an illegal roadblock on the territory of the Republic near the village of Tsnelis in Znaur district. The authorities of South Ossetia demanded that Georgia remove the police post by August 30, but Georgia continued to arrange the checkpoint. Later, the border guards of South Ossetia occupied a height above the Georgian police post and began to equip their posts as part of a special humanitarian operation to thwart Georgian attempts to establish control over part of South Ossetian territory.
The situation is being discussed at the technical meetings of the IPRM format with the participation of representatives of the OSCE, the EU and the Russian Federation, but so far to no avail.
