The event was held from 26 to 27 April at the platform of the Presidential Academy.
“The organizers were the National Research Institute for the Development of Communications and the RANEPA. The main scientific partner of the conference was the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences,” the press service said.
The conference brought together scientists and experts from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, South Ossetia, Afghanistan, India and other countries.
“The traditional participants of the conference are scientists from the RANEPA, Moscow State University, MGIMO, RUDN University, the Diplomatic Academy, the Higher School of Economics, MADI, Tomsk State University and other universities in Russia and foreign countries. For the first time, representatives of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of the General Staff, rectors of the academies of public administration of foreign countries, representatives of the South Ossetian State University took part in the forum," the university said.
The main goals of the conference were to discuss the factors, models and prospects for the development of the world situation, consider possible ways out of the crisis, analyze new vectors and models of Russia's international cooperation.
Head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the South Ossetian State University, Candidate of Political Sciences Inal Sanakoev made a report "The militarization of Georgia as a threat to the security of South Ossetia."
The expert analyzed security problems in the South Caucasus, in general, and in the region of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict, in particular. A trend towards a constant increase in the level of military spending and the strengthening of Georgia's cooperation with the NATO bloc was noted.
"In terms of military policy, we are seeing a further increase in Georgia's military spending for 2022. According to Georgian budget statistics, defense expenditures in 2022 will amount to $ 322 million, whereas in 2021 the budget of the Georgian Ministry of Defense was $290 million. Thus, in 2022, defense spending in Georgia will increase by $32 million. The conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia is now in a frozen state, but there is a danger of a tense situation if the influence of Western countries on Georgia increases," the expert said.
Inal Sanakoev has stressed that the US Atlantic Council published the 2022 global strategy and according to this document: “To further strengthen the security of Georgia, Washington should deploy American infrastructure (logistics, equipment, airfield) for the use of the US Air Force. This is clearly not enough to create an American base, but it will ensure the presence of the US Air Force in Georgia. It will also increase compatibility with NATO.” In addition, the authors of the Strategy propose to expand cooperation and defense support of partners - Georgia and Ukraine - in the Black Sea, and to introduce proportionate sanctions in connection with the ongoing covert "aggression of Moscow" in Georgia. Such plans are clearly manifested in the political rhetoric of NATO's top leadership.
“Obviously, these circumstances pose serious threats to South Ossetia, automatically involve it in a zone of increased risks, which are created by the global geopolitical expansion of the United States and the increase in its cooperation with Georgia as a regional partner. Naturally, these processes cause serious concern in the Republic of South Ossetia in terms of ensuring its military and political security, since they are taking place near our Republic, in close proximity to its borders,” Inal Sanakoev concluded his speech.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, the senior lecturer of the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the South Ossetian State University Anna Gagieva took part in the conference.
In her speech, Gagieva focused on the prevention of biological terrorism in the South Caucasus, which is more accessible than other weapons of mass destruction.
“Under the current conditions, the influence and importance of Russia in the system of international and regional security is incredibly important,” Anna Gagieva noted.
