President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev took part in the commemorative events dedicated to the 19th anniversary of the Beslan tragedy, the press service of the head of state reports.
The memory of the victims of the tragedy was honored by the head of North Ossetia-Alania, Sergei Menyailo, the heads of the parliaments of North and South Ossetia, deputies and members of the governments of the two republics, and other officials.
Under the countdown of the metronome, were sounded the names of those who died at the hands of terrorists 19 years ago were heard - hostages, special forces soldiers and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
After a minute of silence, 334 white balloons were released into the sky - according to the number of victims of the terrorist attack.
Participants of the commemorative events laid flowers and wreaths at the Tree of Sorrow monument in the City of Angels memorial cemetery and at the monument to the fallen soldiers of the Alpha and Vympel Special Forces of the FSB.
On the morning of September 1, 2004, a terrorist detachment of more than 30 people seized school No. 1 in Beslan, where a festive lineup was taking place at that time.⠀
The terrorists took hostage 1128 people who were being held in the school gym for three days without water and food.⠀
The victims of the tragedy were 334 people, of which 186 were children. Employees of law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Emergency Situations were also killed. 810 people were wounded.
