The events of the 2014 “Crimean Spring” and the results of the Crimean referendum were an act of restoring historical justice, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry said.
“After 10 years, we are increasingly convinced of the correctness of this decision. It was the only correct one in the extremely difficult situation around the peninsula at that time. Moreover, it is obvious that the strategic importance of the peninsula in a geopolitical context is extremely great. More than once it became the scene of fierce and bloody battles, especially during the Crimean Wars and the Great Patriotic War. Every meter of land is soaked in Russian blood," the message says.
The Foreign Ministry has noted that the events of the “Crimean Spring” not only led to an incredible rise in patriotism, but also showed the whole world the greatness of Russia and the strength of the Russian spirit.
“Russia does not abandon its own people,” South Ossetia has been convinced of this for more than 20 years since the beginning of the struggle for its freedom, and in August 2008 Russia demonstrated that aggressive nationalism should have no place in the modern world,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized .
The department has added that South Ossetia is determined to maintain its existing ties with Crimea in every possible way, noting that they have positive development dynamics, as evidenced by regular multi-level contacts and obligations arising from bilateral legal documents.
