Vladimir Kuznetsov made a great contribution to the development of Alan and Caucasian studies, enriching historical science with invaluable scientific discoveries, Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Konstantin Dzhussoev noted in the text of his condolences in connection with the death of the famous archaeologist, a specialist in ancient Alan culture and medieval history of the Caucasus.
“The passing of Vladimir Alexandrovich is a great loss for all of us.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of South Ossetia and on my own behalf, I express deep condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Vladimir Alexandrovich,” the Prime Minister was quoted by his press service.
According to Dzhussoev, Kuznetsov was a tireless worker who devoted his entire life to selfless service to science and society.
“The legacy of Vladimir Kuznetsov is extensive and extremely in demand.
He authored 26 monographs, including such famous ones as “The Alan Tribes of the North Caucasus”, “Alania in the 10th-12th Centuries”, “Essays on the History of the Alan”, which have become an integral part of modern historical and archaeological science.

A prominent Soviet and Russian scientist died at the age of 97. Vladimir Kuznetsov will be buried in Vladikavkaz on the new Walk of Fame (located on the road to the village of Oktyabrskoye) on Tuesday, May 7. Kuznetsov lived in Pyatigorsk, but the leadership of North Ossetia-Alania, in view of his great merits to science, in particular Alan studies, decided to bring him to Vladikavkaz.
